Last year they placed a great selection of South African music in beer and motor Vehicle TV ads but this year started off more sporty with Mama Dance! Music Solutions supplying all the music for nine Absa Cape Epic Mountain Bike Race TV programmes that were broadcast worldwide.
This was followed up by the Mama Dance! Music Library (NORM) being used exclusively in a 52-minute Spec-Savers Iron Man TV package that will be broadcast on international sports channels.
Music Supervisor, Craig McGahey, says that there is an increasing call for South African music from ad agencies, TV, film and DVD producers. “We are increasingly finding that our clients actually prefer using South African tracks in their productions - it brings a certain goodwill factor that has a great value to their brands. In terms of production value, our music stands up against any international releases these days. And of course, no one is moaning that the licensing costs are also lower!
“And it's not just South African companies that are using South African music - last year we used a local composer for an international Tiger Beer ad. We also negotiated clearance on a Skwatta Kamp track for a Guinness Malta TV and radio campaign for West Africa (Saatchi & Saatchi). We had successfully pitched the same track for a Nissan Micra South African TV ad earlier in the year.”
