Profiling the Loeries committee: Pete Carr

In the fourth of our interviews with Loeries committee members before the fast-approaching 30th annual Loerie Awards festival weekend, we ask Peter Carr, executive director of Velocity Films, a few questions - some of them professional, some of them personal - to help you understand what makes the Loeries committee tick.

Carr designs houses on AutoCAD for fun. If that doesn't sound like fun to you, try skiing on a black run or rowing down the Zambezi.

Q: What were you doing 30 years ago, today?
A: Riding my bicycle to school.

Q: What have you done to make your mother proud?
A: My mom is always proud of me.

Q: What is the most effective brand communication you have ever seen (from television advert to business card to head office)?
A: The Pepsi vs. Coca-Cola TV ad-wars of the '80s.

Q: What do you do to encourage creativity in your own life?
A: I develop ideas with young filmmakers and, on the side, I love designing homes on my AutoCAD.

Q: What's your most exciting (non-work) activity?
A: The thrill of starting up the car in the morning, venturing beyond the electric fence into the Johannesburg madness and making it back unscathed at the end of each day. It's like living in an X Box. Other than that I'd have to say it's hard to beat skiing a black run and rowing down the wild Zambezi River.

Q: What's the best way you can think of to celebrate the big “three-oh”.
A: Go to Margate.
