Terraplane's RAPS brings to life a special birthday message for Madiba with Draftfcb for Vodacom. “It was an honour for me to get a chance to shoot a Nelson Mandela 90th birthday spot, even though the old man was not there himself,” says RAPS.
According to RAPS, “It was a pleasure meeting and working in collaboration with the agency creatives Alan Lewis, Marcus Motsapalo and Mohlalifi Lentswane.”
With 1000 phones to play with and 6.5 days turnaround, he knew he had his hands full on this one. Agency producer Stephan Campher had this to say about the project, “Being called in for a 'quick' job by Draftfcb turned into a huge success, in spite of the short turnaround time. One of the reasons was the involvement of Terraplane's director - RAPS. His energy on set was unbelievable considering that we went for 36 hours of solid work, most of it outside in the cold.”
The commercial was shot on two stills cameras, operated and DOP'd by Rob Wilson. While temperatures plummeted energy levels soared and by dawn it was clear that the commercial would be a success.
