Greg Francois of Collective Films has just returned from the deepest jungles of Thailand, having shot a new campaign for Pepsi's new energy drink, “Adrenaline Rush”.
Following a branding strategy that includes product placement in the upcoming Angelina Jolie blockbuster, the concept for this commercial was based on a Tomb Raider theme.
Lara Croft created the perfect role model to not only showcase its energy-giving properties, but also the fact that the drink contains only natural ingredients. This required an action-packed storyline where our heroine, appearing as an average woman, explodes into action as she charges through the dense jungles of South East Asia.
To do an action hero like Lara Croft justice, the commercial required Hollywood-style effects and stunts. This included cable rigs for the heroine to simulate Lara Croft's acrobatic prowess, as well as a stunt double to leap off a 15-metre waterfall, only to land in 1.5 metres of water!
Thailand was the obvious location for the shoot, allowing Greg to make full use of the bustling streets of Bangkok and a Cambodian temple in the steaming jungles of Asia.
This was a truly international production coordinated between Moscow, Cape Town, Sydney, Bangkok and New York - though we are proud to say that both Director, Greg Francois, and DOP, Alard De Smidt, are our local action heroes.
