Two more of Concept Interactive's lecturers have become ACE and our intention is to have lecturers attain the ACE status in all the Adobe Creative Design products (PhotoShop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat, Premiere, Dreamweaver and Flash) in the very near future.
Upgrade courses As the Adobe CS3 upgrade courses are proving so popular both in the design and web applications, extra courses are being designed for companies sending three or more designers on the course at the same time, which enables the course to be customised to the specific needs of the company.
Staunch QuarkXPress loyalists are supporting Quark's new friendlier approach to their users and Concept has seen an increase in interest for upgrade courses.
One-Year Learnership in Design Foundation Concept Interactive has commenced the Design Foundation Learnership with a class of 15 learners who are currently learning life skills before they move on to learning basic digital design at Concept after which time they will gain three months experience in the industry. Any company interested in offering a mentorship to these learners should contact Latiefa on (021) 685 0750 or info@conceptinteractive.net.
Sponsorship for 2-Year Digital Design didploma During interviews of prospective candidates for the design foundation learnership, Concept has uncovered much talent in some historically disadvantaged individuals and certain of the candidates have an impressive portfolio, are ambitious and dedicated to improving their skills to make a career in digital design.
It is very apparent that the advertising, design, marketing and publishing environment need more representation of HDIs and that there should be more emphasis on social responsibility with regards to assisting the skills development of talented individuals specific to the creative environment. However, in our experience there is a tendency in the industry to avoid participation in upskilling these individuals on account of their perceived lack of expertise and talent.
It is for this reason, therefore, that we are approaching the industry to sponsor young candidates who have already demonstrated to Concept that they have both the neces-sary creative skills and the drive to improve and develop these skills by applying them-selves diligently and assiduously. We are asking companies in the creative environment to provide these learners with a chance to learn how to use their creative skills in a digital design arena whether it is desktop publishing, illustration or web design.
We have the portfolios of four or five learners who we believe merit such a sponsorship and we would be only too pleased to set up a meeting between ourselves, the candidate and anyone willing to participate at which time there will be the opportunity not only to see the individual's portfolio but also satisfy yourself in an interview that the candidate has the potential to contribute to your company on a part-time basis during the two-year course and thereafter full-time employment.
Social Responsibility Concept is proud that our staff and student's involvement with social responsibility has resulted in the submittal of a Concept Interactive team for the Blisters for Bread 5km walk. We trust that their contribution to the cause will make a difference to those more needy than themselves.
Open Day – Saturday, 15 September Concept is holding an Open Day for potential candidates for the two-year digital design diploma course on Saturday, 15 September from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon. Please phone Rugshana on (021) 685 0750 to book a place for the demonstration and the chance to view our present and past students' portfolios.
Recruitment Various companies are continually approaching Concept to employ our graduates full-time as well as our present students part-time. Unfortunately, we no longer are able to assist these companies as the 2006 graduates are now employed either locally or overseas and our present second-year students have all already been offered part-time jobs which will more than likely materialise to full-time jobs after graduation at the end of November this year. For those companies wanting to have the pick of the crop for junior designers (web and print) in 2008, please attend our End of Year Exhibition.
End of Year Exhibition Concept holds an exhibition of our graduating students at the end of November to which the industry is invited. This year we are including an exhibition of our first year's portfolios so any agency wishing to see new talent with a view to possible part-time employment in 2008, please mail Latiefa at info@conceptinteractive.net or call on (021) 685 0750 so we can send you an invitation.
