Ogilvy CT wins Cadbury pitch

Ogilvy Cape Town has won five Cadbury brands - Stimorol, Dentyne, Halls, Endearments and Chappies - in a competitive pitch against agencies that included Grey and Publicis, the agency announced yesterday, Monday, 29 January 2007.

"We are thrilled to be appointed by Cadbury South Africa, the number one confectionery and chewing gum company in SA with over 30 brands in the market," says Eric D' Oliveira, Ogilvy Cape Town deputy MD.

"This adds to a prominent list of blue chip clients such as Castrol, Old Mutual, BAT, Volkswagen, SAB, Sun International and MWeb that are all market leaders in their respective industries who have chosen to work with us."

Ogilvy was given one hour to present the strategic direction, the big idea and examples of work on all five brands.

"I worked with Ogilvy Cape Town previously and once again they have delivered. They had an excellent understanding of the brands, the creative work was sharp and interesting, and they put a lot of effort into presenting a thorough and professional pitch," says Geoff Whyte, group marketing director at Cadbury SA.

Although based in the Cape, 70% of Ogilvy Cape Town's business is based in Johannesburg, with Cadbury SA becoming another client to reside in this region.

"Geographic divide has simply never been an issue as we are a flying agency," explains D' Oliveira.

Cadbury SA will bring in R50 million in billings for the agency for 2007.

"This kicks 2007 off to a good start and adds to string of successful pitches in 2006, which among other things included being appointed the 24.com account, as well as being appointed to run with an international master brand campaign for Castrol and the announcement of Media24's BEE deal," D' Oliveira says.

"Ogilvy Cape Town was also chosen to launch the Nedbank SAA Voyager Credit Card and the new emblem for Parliament."
