Heart 104.9FM finds its traffic idol
Issued by: Heart 104.9

Cape Town radio station Heart 104.9FM has announced the winner of their “Traffic Idol” talent search. After three weeks of intense lobbying by the five finalists, selected from hundreds of hopefuls who attended the open auditions at the station, the listeners have resoundingly voted for Sara B.

The Rhodes University Journalism graduate's bubbly personality and experience on talk radio completely won the hearts of the station's listeners, and she will take over the reins as the “Bokomo Hearty Breakfast Show's” traffic presenter on Wednesday morning.

Following Sara's one hour trial run as the traffic presenter, which each of the contestants were given last week, voting for the Cape Town born presenter surged dramatically and remained constant enough to see her garner nearly half of the total votes cast.

Her 1835 votes nearly doubled Jawaahier Petersen's 959, which was similarly ranked against Wendy Joy Bartman at 415 votes.

While Sara is only guaranteed a short-term contract with the station; five years of experience on local talk stations and a six-month stint on air in Palestine could very well see her personality become a permanent feature of Heart 104.9FM's line-up.

Programme Manager, Vern Adams, is certainly effusive in his praise. “Sara B has the personality and wit to cope with the high energy personalities who make up the Bokomo Hearty Breakfast Team and still provide an accurate, dynamic traffic information service. We're delighted to have found talent of this calibre.”

A lot of other talent was exposed during the “Traffic Idol” promotion, and the station also announced that one of the other finalists - Justin Hoskins - will join the sports department on a similar trial basis.

Sara B is ecstatic. “I've turned down other opportunities because I'm a ‘Capie' - my heart truly belongs here. For me, Heart 104.9FM is the foremost station in the region - I couldn't be happier, this is where I want to be.”

Heart 104.9FM has promised that mid-year will bring another major event that will engage the city's imagination to at least the same degree, but have been very secretive about exactly what's up their sleeve.
