Minister of Social Development to open the Business Day Kaelo CSR Conference
Issued by: Kaelo Worldwide Media

Minister of Social Development, Dr Zola Skweyiya, will open the Business Day Kaelo Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Conference to be held from 2 - 4 June at the Spier Wine Estate in Stellenbosch. The conference, which is the first of its kind in South Africa, will bring together experts from the developing world to discuss the effect of CSR in the region.

“I am delighted to be opening the Business Day Kaelo CSR Conference,” says Minister Zola Skweyiya, “Conferences of this calibre that specifically look at addressing development issues in the region and the role of corporate interventions therein, play an important role in furthering the social development agenda of our country, as key stakeholders and leading experts gather together, learning from each other and sharing valuable insights into the unique challenges our continent faces.”

“We are honoured to be hosting the minster at our welcome function on Sunday 1 June,” says Sandile Koza, Managing Director of Kaelo Worldwide Media. “His presence at the function will certainly set the tone for the conference and support our vision, which is to move the CSR investment versus impact debate forward while addressing unique African development issues.”

Key local and international CSR specialists and business leaders will be speaking at the conference including Jay Naidoo, a former minister and now chairman of J & J Group Development Trust, and Cas Coovadia, chairperson of the National Business Initiative (NBI) who will discuss the need for local and international collaboration within the CSR space.

Other speakers at the conference are: Elkanah Odembo, director of Ufadhili Trust in Kenya, Riah Phiyega, Group Executive: Group Public Affairs at Absa, Onkgopotse JJ Tabane, Group Executive of Corporate Affairs at Altron, Dr GK Jayaram, director of the Institute of Leadership and Institutional Development in India, Andy Rice, chairman of Yellowood Brand Architects, Annalie Watt, MD of Blue Daisy Sponsorship Consultancy and Bev Russell, CEO of Social Surveys.

“As a means of encouraging debate and collaboration we will also be hosting panel discussions and breakaway sessions which will generate some lively discussions and recommendations on the way forward,” says Koza.

The conference is proudly supported by Absa and the Industrial Development Corporation in association with Department of Social Development and the University of Pretoria GIBS' Colloquium for Social Entrepreneurs and Social Surveys.
