Commercialising Nigerian media

The Nigerian federal government is planning to partially commercialise four of its major state-owned organisations, with the expectation that they will become financially self-sustaining, officials reported on Saturday, 24 March 2007.

The four organisations are:
  • News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
  • Nigerian Television Authority (NTA)
  • Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN)
  • Nigerian Film Corporation (NFC)

Totally owned by the federal government, these media agencies are currently dependent on department financing to cover operations' costs.

However, as these agencies provide social services, they'll still be eligible to receive financial grants for capital projects after commercialisation.
