Lovaffair at The Baxter

The Remix Dance Company will be launching five performances only of a brand new production, Lovaffair, from March 30 until April 3, 2010, at 8pm at Cape Town's Baxter Theatre Centre. 17 Mar 2010 14:45

Take a walk down London Road

[Seagram Pearce] Small theatre might not have as much of a following and broad audience as other better known theatre, yet small theatre lacks nothing in the talent, dedication and small production value by comparison. The Kalk Bay Theatre, which hosted the world premiere of London Road on 11 March 2010, was the ideal intimate location for an equally intimate play. Arriving at the theatre at about 8pm, it was somewhat chilly outside, yet inside I was greeted by Simon (the KBT owner) to make myself comfortable and enjoy a glass of red wine before the show. The atmosphere was superb. 16 Mar 2010 15:21

Powerful plays open the Ikhwezi Theatre Festival

[Michael Britton] Since 1998, the Baxter Theatre Centre has been running Ikhwezi, a cultural outreach festival. This year, the festival presents 12 new plays, and if the two plays showcased on opening night are anything to go by, it promises to be well worth getting along to see a few shows. With a host of new acting talent on display, and featuring the work of new playwrights, it's hats off to the Baxter for their efforts in bringing community players to mainstream theatres. 15 Mar 2010 11:17

Paul Snodgrass is so lonely

[Ruth Cooper] I think the Baxter main concert arena might be my new favourite place to hear bands, not surprisingly they have really great acoustics and hearing Taxi Violence belt it out as opener to Paul Snodgrass comedy routine was a great pleasure. After an electrifying performance of Jim's Revenge and Devil n' Pistol, Mr Snodgrass took to the stage and growled out an intense number, which basically consisted of him repeating I'm so lonely like a coked up and angry Axel Rose. 12 Mar 2010 13:39

Ikhwezi Theatre Festival bounces back

Despite a lack of funding that had threatened the Ikhwezi Theatre Festival's future, 12 dynamic productions are scheduled to take place at the Baxter Golden Arrow stage between 11 and 20 March, 2010. 11 Mar 2010 14:19
